Florida Baseball:
|
||||
I guess it is appropriate that you can watch games featuring America’s favorite pastime in America’s favorite retirement destination and vacation venue the Sunshine State. After all, baseball is a sport played essentially in summer type weather. And, isn’t that what Englewood, in specific and the state of Florida in general are all about, sunshine and warm weather!
When most people think of Florida baseball it is usually spring training baseball that comes to mind. Florida has been welcoming professional baseball players to the sunny and sandy shores of this state for decades. And, for the same amount of years, baseball fans have been coming to Florida to watch their baseball heroes hone their baseball skills and get into shape for the coming season.
The Englewood area of the Gulf Coast of Florida has not been ignored by this rite of spring. In fact, one could argue that the Englewood area has enjoyed a more than abundant number of teams to watch within a short distance of this Gulf Coast community.
One of my favorite things to do during the month of March is attend a baseball spring training camp. Not only is it great to sit in the stands on a warm spring afternoon and watch a baseball game, but it is also fun to go early in the day to watch the players go through their spring training regimen to get into shape and sharpen their baseball skills.
When baseball spring training camps break and the teams head back north to their home ball parks to begin the regular season, this does not signal the end of MLB action in the Englewood area. No, in fact the baseball action is just beginning. To see our favorite team, the Tampa Bay Rays, we only have to travel a short distance north to Tropicana Field. And, if we want more Major League Baseball action, all we have to do is travel south and east to the Miami area to take in a Florida Marlins game.
Once again the Englewood area is well-positioned to offer plenty of choice when it comes to selecting a Florida State League team to watch. Just a few miles from Englewood, on the outskirts of Port Charlotte, the Charlotte Stone Crabs play their games at the spring training facility of the Tampa Bay Rays, But if you are looking for more Florida State baseball action, below I have listed a few of the other teams and their locations:
- Clearwater Threshers
- Dunedin Blue Jays
- Fort Myers Miracle
- Lakeland Tigers
- Sarasota Reds
- Tampa Yankees
