A Florida golf course review is fun, because it means that Judy and I have had another opportunity to play one of the many golf courses located in the Englewood Florida region of the Florida’s southwest Gulf Coast region.

We have played Duffy’s Golf Center, which is located on Hwy #776 about ten minutes from the heart of Englewood, on several occasions. Each time we have enjoyed our round and promised ourselves that we will return again. And, we do play this course whenever possible.

This 18 hole golf course is a Par 59 Executive Golf Course. But don’t let its short distance of 3641 yards deter you from teeing off at Duffy’s. The undulating greens can be deadly fast. If you are not careful, you could find yourself putting right off the green.

Although there are not many trees to speak of, the fairways present many uneven lies and there are lots of bunkers to challenge your accuracy. If you do find yourself playing from the sand, you will find that the traps are well maintained and a good test for your bunker game.

While many golfers play most of the par 4 holes with a wood and an iron, if you are a long hitter forget the driver and leave it at home. I am not tremendously long off the tee but I played the entire course and only used a 3-wood once. The rest of the time it is irons from the tees.

Not many Florida golf course reviews will contain the following information which makes Duffys a truly unique golfing venue. The back nine holes on the golf course are lighted providing golfers with the opportunity to play extra holes late in the day. This can be a big bonus on days that the temperature is particularly hot and you want to wait until the cooling influence of the early evening until teeing off.

Before, or after your round, you can hone your golf skills on the driving range. On occasion we have driven out to Duffy’s just to hit a few golf balls. There is a bit of a drawback abut the driving range. All of the target area of the driving range is a large pond. You hit your golf balls to yardage markers floating in water. The problem with these floating markers is that you are only getting accurate yardage for your carry, there is no way that you can factor in yardage accumulated by bounce or can you practice putting various types of spin on your golf ball. This is an essential point when you are practicing wedge and other short iron shots.

The pond that hosts the driving range is also a water hazard on several holes that stretch around this body of water. Like most water hazards at Florida golf courses, there are gators living in the waterways that challenge your golf game at Duffy’s. Although the last time we were there the gators were very small probably only a year or so old. Nonetheless, Judy wished that we had brought a camera to snap a few pictures of these icons of Florida nature life.

After your round or between nine’s, Duffy’s has a Snack Bar to satisfy your hunger or thirst. But, don’t expect a wide variety of choice to tempt your taste buds. The menu is limited to a few items and drinks of course.

The price range of green fees at Duffy’s Golf Center is affordable for everyone. We played after 2 pm for $15.00 each and that included the use of an electric golf cart. You sure can't beat that price!

Whenever we have been at Duffy’s, the golf course was busy but there never seemed to be any hold-ups.
