The Best is in the Gulf Coast! |
|||
The average low temperature in December, January and February hovers in the low to mid 50 degree F. range. The average daily high during this same period is around 73-74 degrees F, a very comfortable range for winter weather on my thermometer. Temperatures in Detroit, New York or Toronto, are significantly lower. ;-D
The winter average daily high temperatures in Englewood become the average daily low temperatures in June, July, August and September. The summer average daily high temperatures hover around the 90 degree F mark.
People often ask us how we can stand the heat of the summer months. But, the reality of the situation is that we find the summer months are really quite comfortable. After all, indoors is air-conditioned and the beach is close by.
I also like to ask them in return, how hard is it to stand 350 days of sunshine out of 365.
Precipitation
During the summer months we soon learned that it would rain about the same time, late in the afternoon, just about every day. The rainfall was over quickly and within a few minutes there was hardly any indication that it had rained. In fact, a culvert will fill up during these brief down pours, but ten minutes later the ditch would be empty.
Florida weather is such that even in the rainiest month, August, with an average rainfall of slightly more than 8 inches, you can usually play golf every day. The other rainy months, June, July and September average between 6 and just over 7 inches of rainfall.
Ironically, the adage “April showers bring May flowers” is not quite appropriate for this area of Florida because the month of April is historically the driest month of the year with less than 2 inches of rainfall on average. But it never stops the beautiful blooming of the plants.
As far as extreme Florida weather is concerned, we have experienced very little impact on our lives during the past quarter of a century that we have visited Englewood. It is important to note that we have stayed in Englewood during the spring, summer, fall and winter months.
Weather Radios
Although extreme Florida weather has had very little impact on our lives, I still think that it is important to own a weather radio. These handy devices can provide life-saving information.
You can purchase a weather radio for about $50.00. I have heard of models costing anywhere from $40.00 to $100.00.
Keep the radio in your bedroom. It is always on. But the only time that you hear it, will be in the case of an impending extreme weather event. This advance notice may save your life.
NOTE: Every time you change the batteries in your smoke detectors, change the back-up batteries in your weather radio.
We have provided some statistical information about Florida weather in the Englewood area. But, there was one statistic that eluded us. We could not find the number of snow days experienced on average each year in Englewood.
You just have to Enjoy Englewood Florida!
